On
Thursday, 09 April 2009, a group of Armenian
citizens (12 people and 6 of them children) was transferred to Chop border to
from Slovakia.
Charity Fund «Карітас-Caritas» Mukachevo Greek Catholic
diocese has provided these individuals with social and legal assistance. Caritas purchased for children fruits, baby food and
the social worker that is everyday work in detention centre of Chop border troop
distribute these products though migrants from Armenia.
From the words of the detainees they applied during
their detention in the territory of Slovakia to the representatives of the police for
refugee status, but the police rejected their request and returned them to the Ukraine.
On Wednesday, March 25,
Charity Fund «Карітас-Caritas» Mukachevo Greek Catholic diocese visited
attended by representatives of UNHCR, ECRE and NEEKA. The objectives of the
visit was the presentation of the project «Monitoring of safe and adequate conditions
of return and detention. Protection of asylum-seekers, refugees and exiles, in
Belarus, Moldova, Russian Federation and Ukraine », and to discuss cooperation
and exchange of information between CF «Карітас-Caritas» MGCD and the International Fund for the Protection of Health
and the Environment in 2009. NGOs agreed that cooperation is needed to improve
services for migrants, asylum seekers and refugees, as well as to monitor the
situation returns to the European Union and the movement of migrants, asylum
seekers and refugees in Zakarpattya region. For the formalization of relations,
it was decided to conclude an agreement on cooperation and information exchange
between between CF «Карітас-Caritas» MGCD and NEEKA.
Migration seminar

March 2009 in
Uzhgorod,there was a
regional seminar on «Migration on new eastern border of the European Union»
organized by the State Committee on Nationalities and Religions and NGO «AWO Haymantgarden»
(Germany),
with financial support of the EU. The seminar discussed the problems of
resistance to transit illegal migration of foreigners and the protection of
refugees and asylum seekers at the new eastern border with the EU. Participants
in the seminar were representatives of public authorities and NGOs from Germany and Ukraine. The representative of the

Mukachevo Greek Catholic diocese also took part and presented the activities in
migration sphere. Also during the seminar were discussed the problems of labour
migration and illegal migration. Documents from seminar will be published in a
book.
12th of March2009 representatives of International organization of migration (Maya Vebler,Marina Mayorova) together with officials from Administration of State borderguard service of Ukraine (Koval, Abalmasov) visited Charity fund «Карітас-Caritas» of Mukachevo Greek Catholic diocese with working meeting.During this meeting issues concerning joint cooperation between Caritas and IOMin 2009 inthe frameworks of the project «Technical Cooperation and Capacity Building for the Governments ofUkraine and Moldova for the Implementation of Readmission Agreements with theEuropean Union (GUMIRA)». Also there were discussed issues about reporting and access to Chopdetention center. Official from SBS underline during meeting that CF «Карітас-Caritas» MGCD should work not only in Chop detention centerbut also on the territory of Zakarpattya region andSBS will give support in these activities. After meeting in Caritas office IOM representativesvisited Chop detention center together with Caritas officials.
Celebrating of 63 anniversary of the formation Chop border troop
February 14, 2009 there were celebrations on the occasion of 63anniversary of the formation Chop border. In ceremonies attended by MayorGalyna Car, Vice Mayor Arpad Burkush and Vladimir Khizhnyakov, representativesof region administration, state administration of Uzhgorod district, Chop state institutions and organizations, as well as management of Charity Fund«Caritas-Caritas» Mukachevskoy Greek Catholic diocese .
Morning at European square there was demonstration of the technicalmeans of defence of state borders, demonstrations by themobile unit Chop border, displaying the work of trained dogs to locate drugsand weapons.
Fiels kitchen worked and everybody had an opportunity to try soldiers’food.
Celebration continued in the city House of culture. Meeting opened Chopborder commander, Lieutenant Vitaly Verbitsky.
Mayor Galyna Car during her welcome speech she noted that the residentsof our city appreciate highlyselfless labourof soldiers and border guards of Chop bordertroop, wish to employees and veterans peace and success in performingdifficult, but honourable duty - the protection of state borders of anindependent Ukraine.
Mayor present handed a valuable gift. Amateurs of city House of cultureand border presented concert program at the end of celebrating program.
